Welcome
to Dunedin
Dunedin is a student
city and is the largest on the South Island. Here is where the countries
first university was established. It's development of education facilities
has fought the move to the North and it remains one of New Zealand's leading
cities of learning.
It was founded by the
Scottish Free Church and still has a strong scottish flavor. It was
first called "New Edinburgh" but was soon changed to Dunedin which is Edinburgh's
ancient name. Here you will find the countries only kilt manufacturer
and regular celebrations for Burn's Night.
Visitors may enjoy the
Otago Museum that is in north Dunedin. This is excellent if you want
to find out more about the region. At the museum you can see the
2.5 meter tall Moa, the greatest bird that ever lived.
