North
Island
Welcome
to Auckland!
Auckland is the main
gateway to the North Island and has the largest urban area of New Zealand
with a population of just under a million people.
Its landscape
is dominated by volcanic hills, bays, beaches and islands. Auckland
however is not the capital, although it was at one time, it has since moved
to Wellington. It is known as the 'City of
Sails' because of it's stunning harbor location.
Auckland has
fabulous sightseeing, history and shopping and is perhaps the most vibrant
and bustling and multicultural city in New Zealand. Places to visit
include Kelly Tarltons Underworld, where you will be taken on an adventure
in the sea world.
As well there is the
Auckland Sky Tower. This is the tallest building in the southern
hemisphere and takes you on a 360 degree tour of the city. It also
has some of the best beaches to enjoy swimming, diving, fishing, sailing,
windsurfing and water sports in the country.
